So where do you see the whole teacher's walkabout going?
Darren posted to RailsNorthWest last week about the possibility of a general strike and if it would include the rail worker's unions. And it now seems like it's getting closer to that stage, given there seems to be a call going out for more action in the Victoria area on Monday. Any thoughts as to where and how far this will go?

Another week?
At this point, let's face it, the teachers have only been off the job for a week. As someone on CKNW was pointing out, it's not uncommon for kids to miss a week of school throughout the year due to illness or what have you. Once it gets to the end of the second or third week, then I suspect we'll see the courts and government coming down hard on the teachers, especially the leaders of the BCTF. As far as any general strike activity, I really don't see something like that being overly widespread, or going on for any length of time. Yes, the labor movement will stick together; however, at the end of the day, the dispute does not involve them, it's between the BCTF and the government.
I'm not crazy...oh, wait, nevermind.

Considering though that in
Considering though that in this case the strike is not legal, the courts are already somewhat in motion. Unfortunately the judge is being too lenient IMHO, so it very well could be two or three weeks before anything is done.
CUPE is already supporting BCTF, and Mike DeJong warned them there could be consequences. Hopefully some unions will be smart enough not to join in.
I'm looking forward to the hijinks after the teacher's strike. Hopefully some smartass kids out there will go, "I think this and this is unfair, so I'm not following those rules." It would be even better if some students went on strike to show the BCTF how stupid they are.

Some degree of sympathy for the strikers perhaps? I'm leary of government-imposed contracts... albeit I'm even less of a fan of the BCTF.

... and the point of that would be? It's the students who're loosing out on class time when their teachers go on strike.
