An end to SG1

Comments

Ahh...'tis very sad. I will have to console myself by just watching Atlantis and the first 8 seasons on DVD (9 in a couple months), as well as the thought of a possibles movie/TV movie/miniseries/etc that will hopefully be made. If www.savestargatesg1.com is unsuccessful in getting SCI-FI to un-discontinue the series, then I'm curious as to how they will end the season, especially with a major twist that's apparently happening later this season.

MGM wants to jump networks but SCI-FI is saying they can't due to an exclusivity contract or something, though that only applies to the United States so there might still be hope. An article in today's Vancouver Sun said to expect at least one movie and probably cameos of SG-1 characters on Atlantis.

The latter particularly wouldn't surprise me - particularly Amanda Tapping (Carter) and Michael Shanks (Jackson). They are both respective "experts" so they would be more likely to be "needed" in Atlantis.

Wasn't a season of SG1 delayed in the US, as a UK network had been given first dibs to it? If you couple that precedent with the shooting being done in the Vancouver area then it does seem possible for production to continue outside the US. (Although I think that it would be dependent on eventual access to the US television market)

I've not decided whether or not to be happy that SG1 is drawing to an end. It seems to be running a little low on viable plots lately (given the the power of the Ori), although I'm beginning to like some of the new characters that they brought in.

I like all the new cast members, but Vala, in particular, is nearly always good for a laugh. Who were you thinking of?

I don't remember that, although for a season or two, Atlantis was shown in Canada before the US.

As to whether I'm happy its ending...that would depend on how they would end it. I don't want them to end it on some sort of cliff-hanger, like they would have if the show wouldn't have been renewed last year. Even after season 7, the show could have, in theory, ended - just not extraordinarly well. I think everyone thought season 8 would have been the end considering the way it ended. Then they started a new plot arc and got new cast members, and the show appeared to be rejuvenated. If they could find a way to end it well, but still leave the story open for a continuation, that would be great.

I think that Vala is generally worthy of a laugh or two each episode.

Sometimes it's nice for the universe of a tv show to simply close - Star Trek got to the point where it was hard to do anything without tripping over previous plotlines.
