Hopefully soon we can stop having half of the world's climate scientists claiming to be Nobel Prize Winners - to quote a representative of the Norwegian Nobel Institute: "Unfortunately we often experience that members of organizations that have indeed been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize issue various forms of personal diplomas to indicate that they personally have received the Nobel Peace Prize. They have not."
A very interesting plot showing wages changes in various European countries during the periods 2000-2009 and 2009-2012. Greece goes up 23% in the first period and then down 19% in the later (still positive). Germany - the "winner" of all of this shows an 18% drop in the first period and just a 2% gain in the latter.
How this patent could be invalidated before Apple's patent on a rectangular phone with rounded edges I'm just not sure. This is still one of the patents which Samsung was convicted of violating in the US though.
"Neuroscientists have designed a pair of pants that look a bit like cycling shorts and which send tiny electric currents to the wearer's bottom. The undergarment has the potential to prevent pressure ulcers in people with mobility problems. This could save the US an estimated $12 billion annually. ... and in the US alone about 60,000 people die each year from complications related to bedsores, such as infection or gangrene."
"But I've found that the best way to avoid a premature upgrade is to remember what you might be giving up: a trip to a tropical getaway, a new suit or perhaps a down payment on a new bed that will help you sleep better. That kind of context makes it easier to pause and realize the grandest truth with upgrades: If it isn't broken, stolen or lost, maybe you don't need a new one just yet."
Are you sure you want high-speed rail? I remember saving over 80% on my Italian rail travel by opting in one case for a local train that took about 25% longer to reach its destination. Like the trains mentioned here, the local train didn't require reservations like the high-speed one did. Of course, high-speed rail may be better than no rail service
It's amazing the silly things that affect voting patterns - of course facial expressions just might be less silly than weather or who wins football games.
