More copyright delays

This time business is getting involved, through the creation of an organization called the Business Coalition for Balanced Copyright:

A who's who of powerful companies and business associations have banded together to push for less restrictive copyright reform, driving a stake into the heart of the federal government's argument for its new copyright bill.

The Business Coalition for Balanced Copyright, a group that includes Google, Yahoo, Rogers, Telus, the Canadian Alliance of Broadcasters and the Retail Council of Canada, among others, on Tuesday sent its stance on seven key copyright principles to Industry Minister Jim Prentice, Canadian Heritage Minister Josée Verner and several other cabinet ministers.

...

As usual, Michael Geist has an analysis of the organization's stance and also is suggesting that this may have put a hold on the introduction of new copyright legislation for another month or so.

If you're annoyed about rules on liquids in air travel

Here's the US Transportation Security Administration itself had to say about the limitations on liquids carried onto planes as a result of the threat of binary explosives:

The preparation of these bombs is very much more complex than tossing together several bottles-worth of formula and lighting it up. In fact, in recent tests, a National Lab was asked to formulate a test mixture and it took several tries using the best equipment and best scientists for it to even ignite. That was with a bomb prepared in advance in a lab setting. A less skilled person attempting to put it together inside a secure area or a plane is not a good bet. You have to have significant uninterrupted time with space and other requirements that are not easily available in a secured area of an airport.

So, in other words, even if a terrorist could get materials past a security point and try to mix them, even in ideal conditions, they're unlikely to produce an explosion.

As usual, things seem to be more about the appearance of security rather than security itself.

No House...

Fox is leaning toward not ordering more original episodes of its top scripted series, "House," as well as "Bones," which has four fresh segments in the can. A return of Fox's live-action comedies this season also is in doubt. "24" won't return until January, Reuters

So it seems as though we may be House-less, at least until the Fall. Ah well, it should make for better productivity this spring.

Most likely reason that Dave's car didn't start this morning
