- Shaw Cable to start billing extra for high Internet data usage
- To me some form of usage-based billing or throttling of heavy users doesn't seem to me to be unreasonable in principle, but here the overage charges seem relatively uncorrelated with Shaw's expenses to process this extra data. It also seems a bit like Shaw is using it's control of the cable internet infrastructure to protect it's cable TV business in the face of Netflix and shows available on the networks' website - the sort of thing that might attract an anti-trust lawsuit. They also sneakily rolled back their limits on data in each plan when doing so, without making announcement of it. e.g. My plan went from a 125GB cap to a 100GB cap. More details here and here.

- Still debating whether or not to go with Wind, but one of the big problems seems to be a lack of good phones. To quote the article: "these providers rolled out networks using licenses won in a government auction for so–called advanced wireless spectrum. Almost no other carriers are using that AWS frequency, which means few handsets are being made for it."
