That was true until today. In a surprising revelation, NASA scientist Felisa Wolfe-Simon and her team have found a bacteria whose DNA is completely alien to what we know today, working differently than the rest of the organisms in the planet. Instead of using phosphorus, the newly discovered microorganism—called GFAJ-1 and found in Mono Lake, California—uses the poisonous arsenic for its building blocks.
A article discussing male/female roles in the kitchen in a feminist world... how earlier feminists seemed desperate to escape but now seem to be rethinking that decision.
I've linked to photo #8 from the Big Picture's list of photos related to Brazil's drug war. I just found it a little amusing the way it appears that there are more journalists involved in the raid than their are policemen. (Out of curiousity why aren't the police wearing any sort of headgear to help protect that part of their body?)
"A 2009 audit, for instance, found that Medicare allowed $4,018 for a power wheelchair that cost suppliers $1,048. The program paid $7,215 for oxygen dispensers that cost $587, another audit found." - wonder how Obamacare will compare in efficiency for Americans. The root of this particular problems seems to be adjusting prices Medicare pays only for inflation rather than based on any technological innovation.
