Tim Keller on politics

There’s this foolish idea that if you believe in God and Jesus is the Son of God, you’re going to be against gun control. Actually, I think you simply can’t get orthodox Christianity into one political mold.

- A quote from Tim Keller, excerpted from a profile of him in the New Yorker

Yet another biological clock

For some reason, this post on the male biological clocks seems to draw quite a few visitors to the site. Now to add yet another "biological clock" to the table:

Canadians of childbearing age are delaying parenthood longer than any generation in history. Ten years ago, the highest fertility rate was among people between the ages of 25 and 29. Now that rate is found in the 30 to 34 age group, according to Statistics Canada data released last fall.

Reproductive technologies are helping modern couples delay their biological clocks. But their parents know there's no magic pill for aging. Some fear they'll be too old and feeble to dote on their grandkids when they finally show up.

Google in China

I'm not how many of you have been keeping tabs on Google's recent controversy over China. They faced quite a bit of criticism when they originally entered the country.

A short while ago, they claimed to be pulling out of the Chinese market, due to suspecting Chinese government involvement in hacking of the accounts of political dissidents.

Chinese control over the internet over the internet is fairly well known - e.g. the so-called "Great Firewall of China" that censors the portions of the internet which Chinese citizens can see, and which Google agreed to implement when they entered the market. The Chinese government has also complete cut off regions of the country from the internet for six months.

Now it seems that the Chinese government called Google's bluff about them leaving the country.
