Adaptive Cruise Control Goes Mainstream
"He's been weaving and changing lanes, doing between 45 and 70 mph—and hasn't touched a pedal in an hour." - sounds cool. I wonder how whether it might also result in a decrease in the rate of accidents.
A new problem brewing: Coffee and young adults
"Teens and young adults aren't reaching for regular black coffee, but rather high-calorie drinks like mochaccinos and frapuccinos which are loaded with sugar and fat. While these drinks may taste good, they provide almost no nutritional value and leave kids with a lot of empty calories." ... personally it was laziness that converted me to drinking coffee black. Less stuff to keep in the fridge, and saves the occasional walk in search of a fridge. That said, to be drinkable black the coffee has to be reasonable. Tim Hortons coffee still requires a bit of cream and sugar.
The Sluggard
"The wise man will learn while there is time. He knows that the sluggard is no freak, but, as often as not, an ordinary man who has made too many excuses, too many refusals and too many postponements. It has all been as imperceptible, and as pleasant, as falling asleep."
Grains make gains: Wheat surpasses white in sliced bread sales
Am I the only one who just doesn't like the white stuff? (I also don't require a magical transformation from "bread" to "toast" to take place prior to being able to eat the stuff)

The Secret Ingredient is....!

Taken from Iron Chef America. It still prefer the dubbed Japanese version though - less boring ingredients and better commentary.

Interfaith marriages are rising fast, but they're failing fast too
"[I]t is an open secret among academics that tsk-tsking grandmothers may be right. According to calculations based on the American Religious Identification Survey of 2001, people who had been in mixed-religion marriages were three times more likely to be divorced or separated than those who were in same-religion marriages."
Ph.D. comics: A call for papers
Ok, they're not all that bad as suggested, although some are pretty close.
Popcorn a Hidden Source of Antioxidants, Study Says
"Popcorn, the movie-accompanying favorite snack, can also be a good source of fiber and antioxidants, says a new study presented Tuesday." - just pretend you don't put any butter or salt on yours and it's healthy. Whole grains, remember?
(U.S.) Military burns unsolicited Bibles sent to Afghanistan
"Military personnel threw away, and ultimately burned, confiscated Bibles that were printed in the two most common Afghan languages amid concern they would be used to try to convert Afghans, a Defense Department spokesman said Tuesday. ... military rules forbid troops of any religion from proselytizing while deployed there"

Food... a view of the related books on my shelves

Below would be most of the books that I've got in my possession on food-related topics (and it doesn't even get into any materials on similar topics on DVD that I've also got kicking around - the DVD cases probably stack a foot high or so.

Why post this? To prevent people from giving me books on food. I've got enough.
