Apple is on fire!

An exclusive KIRO 7 Investigation reveals an alarming number of Apple brand iPod MP3 players have suddenly burst into flames and smoke, injuring people and damaging property.

It’s an investigation that Apple has apparently been trying to keep out of the public eye.

It took more than 7-months for KIRO 7 Consumer Investigator Amy Clancy to get her hands on documents concerning Apple’s iPods from the Consumer Product Safety Commission because Apple’s lawyers filed exemption after exemption.

Somehow I doubt that this will get the Apple addicts to switch, although I do like my 8GB Creative Zen V Plus better than the iPod Nano that I owned for a while.

Modern Reformation does theology and food

Given my recent readings - Fast Food Nation, In Defense of Food, etc. - I found it interesting that the theme of the current issue of Modern Reformation is theology and food. Once someone is back from Asia, I think that he'll be getting this issue tossed at him so he can read quotes such as:

... I cannot help but think that it is hard for most participants to picture the mystery of our participation in the eternal marriage feast in heaven, when they have as a model in their minds driving up to the window at McDonald's for a hamburger, fries, and a Coke.

(Daniel Eggold, "Consuming Communion", p. 33 of July/August 2009 issue of Modern Reformation)

Someone else is likely to enjoy the article "Holy Communion as a Strategic Plan for Church Growth".

Another oddity that this issue brought out is that the one of the authors of a book that I'd recently come across - Authenticity: What Consumers Really Want (covering how businesses can create [pseudo-]authenticity) - is actually a subscriber to the magazine.

Today's NASA factoid

Buzz Aldrin was a firm Presbyterian Christian and had communion on the Moon. However it was kept secret from the public as Nasa was fighting a lawsuit by atheist Madalyn Murray O'Hair who objected to the Apollo 8 crew reading from the Book of Genesis. Aldrin's communion kit was prepared by the pastor of his church.

Solo-communion seems a bit. although not entirely, self-contradictory. It's an interesting note none-the-less.

Go back 40 years, and Apollo 11 was somewhere in transit between the earth and the moon. That... and a certain Singaporean was wearing diapers.

Unfortunately, I don't that Google's lunar base is hiring anymore. Otherwise, sign me up to go.
