Spending and not spending money

Since getting back from the Mid-East and thinking that travelling again next year would be a good idea, I've been trying to conscientiously shift to a maximal-savings mode. Some seem to think that I paid for my previous travels by taking out a loan, but I'd consider that a (very, very, very) bad idea. Contrary to what some assume, I try to tuck away at least as much money as I put towards entertainment/vacation into my 'meh... maybe I should buy a house or something' fund.

One of the things that I've been trying to cut down is the amount that I spend on restaurant food. I got into the habit of eating out probably 75% of the time, which tends to get rather expensive. Thus far I've managed to trim back eating out for supper quite a bit, but lunch still remains a primarily cafeteria/restaurant meal.

How would you celebrate kidney bean appreciation weekend?

A while back I made the mistake of buying dry kidney beans rather than the canned variety. Since they're a food whose preparation seems to require overnight soaking plus hours of cooking time, they don't quite fit into my definition of bachelor food.

Thus, on Friday night I declared it kidney bean appreciation weekend, with the idea of cooking up the whole kilo of dried beans in one shot. Last night's kidney beans + meat was followed today in my crock pot by the most kidney-bean intensive chili recipe that I could find. ... and I've still got a few containers of kidney beans sitting in my freezer in addition to lots of leftover chili.

Any suggestions for how to use up the remainder of those things? I've run out of ideas as I'm not a fan of bean salads. Or perhaps, the remainder shall stay in the freezer until the next time I decide to make chili.
