What to watch?

One show that I've watched a few times now goes by the name of Survivorman. The premise of show as stated on its website:

No food, no shelter, no fresh water, no tools... no camera crew. One man - alone in the wild for seven days with only his wits and stamina to sustain him.

Airing on "The Science Channel" in the U.S., and "The Outdoor Life Network" in Canada, each episode finds “Survivorman” Les Stroud abandoned in a remote location. He carries little more than the clothes on his back – and his cameras. Les not only needs to survive for a week without supplies, but he has to film everything himself, lugging over fifty pounds of camera gear the entire time. The Costa Rican rainforest, Arctic ice-flows, Georgian swamp and the high Sonora desert include a few locales where Les has overcome seemingly impossible obstacles.

In the news...

Street kids raid poverty summit:

Dozens of street children have invaded a five-star hotel food tent and feasted on meals meant for sale at the World Social Forum in Kenya's capital. The hungry urchins were joined by other participants who complained that the food was too expensive at the annual anti-capitalist get together ...

The Pew Report study of Pentecostalism

One magazine that I subscribe to - Touchstone - had a blurb in the back of their January/February issue about a recent study of pentecostalism conducted by the Pew Forum. There they noted the following:

Far fewer "renewalists" experienced or even witnessd "the gifts of the Spirit," healings, and exorcisms than the common definition of Pentecostal and Charismatic experience suggests. In only seven of the ten countries surveyed by the Pew Forum, for example, did at least half the Pentecostals report that their church services included praying in tongues and prophesying, and the numbers for Charismatics were even lower. Even fewer reported that they spoke in tongues, with at least 40% in six of the ten countries saying that they did not do so. The traditional definition of the movement by its speaking in tongues needs to be rethought, Luis Lugo, the director of the Pew Forum, told journalists when he announced the study.

A new version of Train Simulator is just around the bend

I discovered today that Microsoft Game Studios has started working on a new version of Train Simulator based on the new Flight Simulator X engine. I also noticed on one of the developer's blogs that they went on a research trip to the WCRA in Squamish and took a picture of 2860.
