Am I crazy enough to try to fix this thing?

I picked up a cheap replacement power adaptor for my iBook in July, but then last evening had the dreaded logic failure (the 4th time it's occurred on this machine). The laptop is out of warranty and Apple charges $700+ for the repair, so I'd rather just replace the thing than spend that kind of money. It does appear though thay some have had some success with DIY repairs - the question is, am I crazy enough?

I think that the answer to that last question is probably yes - but I need to somehow find the time to do it. It seems almost silly to waste much time on a laptop that's more than 3 years old though.

FYI... web host transfer

I just wanting to make people aware that there may be some intermittent issues on the website over the weekend, as I hope to get around to trying to transfer webhosts over to 1and1.com from its current location. I'd prefer not to do it this weekend, as I'm rather busy (and somewhat sick yet), but time is running out until my current hosting account expires, and next weekend seems likely to be busier yet.

Photographer's humor

There are times that I'm glad I'm a train photographer, rather than having to deal with people. Check out this comic strip: What the Duck

BTW, anyone want to get Dave a "pee on Canon" shirt?

Intellectual property law sillyness

I tend to try to drive it into people's heads that ethical and legal are two separate matters, and while reading Slashdot a while back came across a comment whose author indicating that in his situation the two were in conflict. The commenter elaborates a little on the European legal system, and then concludes with a statement:

As a result of [the legal situation] ... it is illegal for me to watch movies from "copy-protected" DVDs that I bought and paid for, but it is legal to watch the same movies if I download them off the 'net for free.

I'm not a lawyer, nor have I looked at the laws referenced there, but such a situation indeed sounds plausible. The above is not the case with movies in Canada at the moment, but such a situation is a possiblity in the future.
