NET Bible Reader's Edition

One habit that I follow when attending Bible studies is to carry a translation that is not the dominant one in use wherever I am. In practice this has meant taking my NET bible to PCA Bible studies, and the ESV at the remaining Bible study.

I really like the flow of the NET, although in some places it's a little too much of a paraphrase for my liking. The study notes can be quite helpful in interpretation, but at the same time in order to read some of them you pretty much need an M.Div. I just got an email from the people behind the NET informing me that they're spitting out a new version with less complicated and newer notes. Incidentally, it's also much cheaper than the former version. Check it out.

At first, I thought you were talking about the New English Translation, but now I realize that this is a new translation. The notes sound interesting.

How about one of those four-column bibles - one column being the NET bible?

Those multi-version Bibles are kind of interesting, but at the same time I suspect they might just get a little too bulky to be carrying around all the time. If I'm looking at multiple translations at once I'm probably using my computer (which is generally close at hand).

Last Bible study that I was at we ended with 7 or 8 different translations represented, which seems another way to achieve balance.

Four column bibles? That would be a really large Bible to carry around. Yikes. Does that mean four translations in one? I wouldn't mind having two translations in one. It would be easier to compare them and get a better idea of what's being referred to in the original text, especially since I don't know Greek or Aramaic.

If you raid the bookshelf in the "guest bedroom" you'll find a greek interlinear new testament. Word for word translation alongside the greek plus (if memory serves correct) both the KJV and the NIV.
