How Saying No to McDonald's Might Lead to Dad Losing Custody
*sigh* "The trouble began last week, the Post explained Thursday, when Schorr was scheduled to take his son to their usual neighborhood restaurant for their weekly Tuesday-night visit. But that night the child dug in his heels about wanting to go to McDonald's instead. Schorr, who felt the boy had been eating too much junk food lately, refused, saying he could eat anywhere else but the fast-food joint — or have no dinner at all. "
Terence Corcoran: Despite everything, Rob Ford’s fiscal record is solid
I find Ford's views on most things rather idiotic, but given what's known about two other Canadian politicians - Justin Trudeau and Jack Layton - the question of consistency here seems an interesting one.
Bird poop coffee is the new trend in poop coffee
I guess you could say that the bird stuff is becoming more poop-ular
You've Come a Long Way, Elska - The truth about the "best countries for women."
"[T]he broader conceptual problem ... is that the sexes are intrinsically different, and any effort to impose 'equality' by one measure is likely to reduce it by others."

Bankers Groups To Obama: Stop Criminalizing Credit Standards
A quick reminder that while greedy bankers bear partial fault for the housing bust in the US, legislation similar to some of that which preceded the bust like this is being reintroduced again. "HUD recently launched 22 separate investigations against lenders alleging that their policies of requiring minimum credit scores 'had a disparate impact on minorities in violation of the Fair Housing Act.' Dozens of similar actions have been brought against lenders by Attorney General Eric Holder. He is basing claims of bias on statistics showing differences in loan outcomes by race while ignoring racially neutral credit-risk factors that explain those differences."

"Who Is to Blame When a Man Cheats? According to a Revenge Website, Only the Woman He Cheats With."

Came across this piece from Amanda Marcotte today at Slate. Here's a brief excerpt:

Look, I'm not going to defend a woman who makes the crappy choice of sleeping with a married man, but this retrograde belief that men can't control themselves in the face of a woman who tempts them makes it clear the work of feminism is far from done.

This is the same Amanda Marcotte who likes the talk about victim-blaming. It seems to me, though, that the argument that Marcotte's making in the Slate article above is the exact same one that she opposes when speaking of cases wherein two drunk individuals wind up having sex. The conclusion that seems worth drawing here is not that its clear that the work of feminism is far from being done but rather that Amanda Marcotte is far from consistent.

(In the case of the specific situation above, it seems to me that there's at least two reasons why its the women's names that would be getting posted on this website rather than the man's. First, it tends to allow the woman making the post a greater degree of anonymity. Secondly, if the posting woman, as in one case in the article, decides to continue the relationship with the man in question, posting his vulnerabilities might destabilize the future of their relationship and make it open to others who might want to get involved with him).
