Evolutionary Origins of the Endowment Effect: Evidence from Hunter-Gatherers
"The endowment effect, the tendency to value possessions more than non-possessions, is a well known departure from rational choice and has been replicated in numerous settings." This interestingly appears not to exist in hunter-gatherer populations though.
Change Minds Or Drive Turnout?
"As far as I can tell, the evidence leans against the win-by-extremism-turning-out-the-base argument. Extremists tend to do worse in elections. They don’t raise turnout of their base; in fact, they probably lower it. They may fire up their opponents’ base. And swing voters can make a big difference when a candidate appeals to them."

Price Gouging
By and large economists seem quite opposed to anti-price-gouging laws in the wake of weather-related disasters.
Trust is heritable, whereas distrust is not
"Social scientists have devoted much attention to studying the sources and consequences of the disposition to trust but have only recently begun to investigate the disposition to distrust. An increasing consensus is emerging that distrust is not merely the opposite of trust. ... although both trust and distrust are strongly influenced by the individual’s unique environment, interestingly, trust shows significant genetic influences, whereas distrust does not."
How the AP Stylebook censors 'pro-life' and other conservative words
"The original intent of word preference was to use words that are more neutral than others. But in recent years, that concept has changed."

Chrome is getting cranky

If you're using Chrome the theme probably stopped rendering correctly in the past day or two. Chrome has been getting a bit more pedantic about displaying things of late. Warning: will probably be poking at that in the near future so don't be too surprised if you see some updates.

That theme issue also isn't the only problem that I've had with this site and Chrome. Chrome now blocks Drupal's module auto-updater from working properly and also is making me unable to preview posts being putting them in place. I'm currently posting this in Safari and may start using this or some alternate browser more in the future.

Must confess that I'm getting more frustrated with Google and its products lately. Currently testing out Bing and DuckDuckGo as default search engines in various browsers of mine.
